Native Moments

NATIVE moments! when you come upon me—Ah you are here now! Give me now
libidinous joys only! Give me the drench of my passions! Give me life
coarse and rank! To-day, I go consort with nature's darlings—to-night too;
I am for those who believe in loose delights—I share the midnight orgies
of young men; I dance with the dancers, and drink with the drinkers; The
echoes ring with our indecent calls; I take for my love some prostitute—I
pick out some low person for my dearest friend, He shall be lawless, rude,
illiterate—he shall be one condemn'd by others for deeds done; I will play
a part no longer—Why should I exile myself from my companions?

O you
shunn'd persons! I at least do not shun you, I come forthwith in your
midst—I will be your poet, I will be more to you than to any of the rest.

I lived from 1819-1892. pretty hot stuff. there is a walt witmanesque poet in milwaukee named antler. even after all these years the poem is still very erotic. since tamara asked about when whitman lived, i thought i would post his birth and death years as part of my comment. the power of information.

kinda scarcastic in the undertone of his desire, but Walt is
    a great penman....
as we re refreshed to remember
thank you for sharing this delicate piece of work with us.
I wonder what era his life was lived?
I can vision the long grey/silver hair with a tight
black long sleeve top coat and a girth of satin and latches
    across his chest plate.
    Probably smoking a cigar!!!

shunned is never a good thing. Glad to know you are not shunning them, although, are you putting yourself above them here:

"I will be more to you than to any of the rest"

doesn't sound like mutual respect, more like pity? I could be seeing this from the wrong angle though (been a long night lol)
