We can but follow to the Sun

920

We can but follow to the Sun—
As oft as He go down
He leave Ourselves a Sphere behind—
'Tis mostly—following—

We go no further with the Dust
Than to the Earthen Door—
And then the Panels are reversed—
And we behold—no more.

'He' I feel is in reference to 'God' not 'Christ' and also in reference to 'Ra' the Sun. Death is quite clear, I feel, right off, your body stays behind and your spirit goes to the Heavens [note: most mentions in the bible in the use of the word 'heavens' is referred to the sky or even the plain of space not a place with pearly gates (which pearly would be earthly and 'heaven' isn't supposed to be of this earth) or gold-lined streets .. just the sky above] and as you look back you can see the Earth still moving without you.

The first line of the second 'we go no further with the Dust' the 'Dust' I feel is 'our' bodies, our flesh, thus we go no further with it, it stays and our souls/spirit continue on -- and then the last two lines I feel is a representation to 'thought' since our 'brains' will be left behind as well so will our knowledge of thought, the 'plain of existance' thus changes and 'we' are no more but we are something else.

My interpretation, like Cristos mentions above, I could go on for hours. A good piece that Dickinson has written here.

The depth of death, I took it as, if you try and shape eash word into a physical symbol, and associate everything together according to its connotation I only come back to being, without seeing, I could rant on for hours with this....i see so much, see so little, want to see more...swaying and peacefully halted by back alley muggers and assaulted.
    beautiful.
    peace
