A Sake Barrel

A sake barrel,
Born without hands, makes merry —
Cherry blossom time

It's amazing how something so bare can be so elegant. Beautiful poem, really calls to mind festivities past, or something like that... nostalgia, how something can exist (the sake barrel) in times of joy and loneliness.

    Great thirst inducing haiku.

Hear hear! I remember fondly many gallons of the wonderful rice wine when visiting Japan back in the 80's. Rode the New Tokaido Line's bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto. Wonderful trip. Especially enjoyed Sanjusangendo and Kiyomizudera.

And the best friend of many a lonely man
I must find some more of Mr Saikaku's poetry.

    A real joy to read.
