From The Mountain

IF I, dearest Lily, did not love thee,

How this prospect would enchant my sight!
And yet if I, Lily, did not love thee,

Could I find, or here, or there, delight?

A wonderful commentary on the constancy of true love, "If I, dearest Lily, did not love thee", I would easily be led to follow another who appeared lovely in my sight. But I could find no delight with that one, since I love THEE" Beautifully written, so simple yet so poignant.

This poem is so deep, but yet so simple. Written in standard form, but written in such deep purgatory of mind. This man had troubled thoughts, it seems.
