Tanka 05

saw the country
and returned—now deep at night
I lie in bed and
fields of mustard flowers
bloom before my eyes

I didn't experience anything that Ava Noire experienced in reading this, when I read 'mustard flowers' that's the image I got. Of course I don't eat mustard too often, I actually do not even remember the last time I had it. I don't count grey puopon (sp?).

It's a nice tanka, not really into tankas but this is a nice one for a form I'm not really into.

A nice piece that Shiki has written here.

I love yellow flowers, the new blooms, wild herbs growing in waste places in this country, but are ... feet or more in height, with smaller flowers than the White Mustard ,Members of the mustard family are very important ... plants are harvested before flowers are produced, so you ... was coming and produced flowers instead of nice leaves ...

Well sorry but I liked this till I saw the word mustard. And immediately I got this repulsive bitter taste in my mouth and nose. shudder

Once the magic of nature has been seen, it forever remains a part of you. I wonder if this was written whilst Shiki was bed-ridden with illness. If it is from that collection, it would add a whole new dimention to this good piece.
