What mortal beauty could a man behold
Like you, dream-vision of my soul in flame,
Reflecting your great brilliance thru my frame,
A sunburst mirrored in a sea of gold?
The world is wide, but yearning makes me bold
To search its wideness: faithful, poor and tame
I seek the God of kindness just the same,
But find only his altar… bare and old…
That which I worship in you cannot sleep.
What are you then? A downward glance of ruth,
A drop of honey at a poisoned feast,
Essence distilled from all the tears I weep
And vision of my dreams! If you're the truth,
Reveal yourself to me in heaven at least!

you may...

This was a beautiful poem. Very equisite and well put. I loved the wording in it, and the ABBA rhyme scheme is something that I've never really wanted to do..usually I dislike it, but this really did sound beautiful.

i am a romantic, so these lines definitely make me think of old romantic histories with things like fatge and meant to be and black and white and easy decisions, kindness... but that's not here anymore, just the relics and the ruins... a lovely piece... i tried a few times but i think the rhymthm in lthe last line relies on the natural slurring of words... in any case, a beautiful write. -
I don't perceive as to that was what he was speaking of when he wrote this, I may be wrong, but, I am doubting that viewing. I feel he is just talking about the 'one true deity' and to a Christian of course that would be Christ and to a Muslim Mohammed or Allah whatever etc.
But, I feel he is just referencing 'God' as the deity and not Jesus as the man who is the Deity.
But, that is my interpretation and it may be wrong.
It is an endearing piece none-the-less.

wow. i liked this. this is very good. and if i'm not mistaken in the bible it says something about the unknown god being Jesus...one of the apostles told the people about it when he say the alter there. this is very good and don't worry, if you were praying to the unknown god as the god i know then you'll see him in heaven.
