The ships are lying in the bay,
The gulls are swinging round their spars;
My soul as eagerly as they
Desires the margin of the stars.
So much do I love wandering,
So much I love the sea and sky,
That it will be a piteous thing
In one small grave to lie.

The first verse seems to be a beginning, and the second verse seems to be an end; and I mean this in the manner of 'life' and then of course 'death'. That's how it reads to me, and that's how I am taking it.
A good piece that Atkins has written here.

This flows so perfectly, and the rhyme scheme, I like. Very short, but a lot of imagery is used. Hmm..it's really early in the morning so I'm not sure if I can leave a proper critique, but I don't think this piece needs any critiquing. It's simply beautiful just the way it is.
