When I Love

When I love
I feel that I am the king of time
I possess the earth and everything on it
and ride into the sun upon my horse.

When I love
I become liquid light
invisible to the eye
and the poems in my notebooks
become fields of mimosa and poppy.

When I love
the water gushes from my fingers
grass grows on my tongue
when I love
I become time outside all time.

When I love a woman
all the trees
run barefoot toward me…

    Love naturally

I love the way he used nature in this poem, as love really suppose to be as natural as the trees, grass and water.

    the old truth

    From guest Mansoor Alam (contact)
qabbani's when i love is a frank admission of the fact that human beings need not pretend, that they don't love a woman, rather one should accept it as a truth that can not be dampened by our outward attitudes. qabbani is speaking in this poem for the whole humanity.his voice is the representative clarion of the thing called [informed instinct ].

On my way to work today,I was listening to his lyrics sung by Kadim Al-Sahir and got the whole range of experience of versatility in his poems. Nizar Qabbani is the absolute genius of love, a most sacred gift from Aphrodite!

    holy crap

I actually hated this...I don't know why...but it seems so simple and cliche to me. I did not feel any effort or depth at all. It seems as though there was no thought process and I didn't really know where the author was going with it.

Before judging too harshly, you should bear in mind that this piece was likely translated from Arabic - a language with totally different sounds, sentence structure and idiom from English.

When I love more strange things happen to me which are hard to state and explain but some people have a very beautiful command over their thoughts and pen to compose all such feelings as this great poet Qabbani...A very beautiful poem

    "When I love
    I become liquid light
    invisible to the eye
and the poems in my notebooks
become fields of mimosa and poppy."
