Words

He lets me listen, when he moves me,
Words are not like other words
He takes me, from under my arms
He plants me, in a distant cloud
And the black rain in my eyes
Falls in torrents, torrents
He carries me with him, he carries me
To an evening of perfumed balconies

And I am like a child in his hands
Like a feather carried by the wind
He carries for me seven moons in his hands
and a bundle of songs
He gives me sun, he gives me summer
and flocks of swallows
He tells me that I am his treasure
And that I am equal to thousands of stars
And that I am treasure, and that I am
more beautiful than he has seen of paintings
He tells me things that make me dizzy
that make me forget the dance and the steps

Words…which overturn my history
which make me a woman…in seconds
He builds castles of fantasies
which I live in…for seconds…
And I return…I return to my table
Nothing with me…
Nothing with me…except words

    love it

its an amazing poem; the words are so sweet.
i like the part that says: "And the black rain in my eyes Falls in torrents, torrents"
black rain is the tears that comes from her eyes; it is black because she is putting on makeup and in middle east it is known that women there put on black eyeliner/kojol around their eyes.. to make them look more beautiful.
and thats why her tears are black

This poem is one of my fav. because i can relate to the way every woman wants to feel and he explains the affection in the perfect ways. I cant believe how amazing this guy is, His respect towards a woman is rarely found in men these days. i respect him for this, and for his outlook on love. this poem shows that even if a man has so little to offer to a woman (such as material things) his words can be enough." words are not like other words" when you do not feel them like you would when someone speaks them with passion. qabbani shows this is true in this poem.

    wow

This poet seems to be in touch with the needs of women! I felt like I was listening to the old court singers, revealing the stories of love--like the Song of Solomon...beautiful lyrics, beautiful tunes...then, reality comes. Like the woman in the poem, it was for seconds...and returning, nothing but words.
Amazing poem. It should be taught in the classrooms!

Beautiful, so romantic so bold, so amazing. Its even more beautiful being sung by the great lebanese singer magda al roumi. its a perfect idyllic story about love...it can never be so perfect or so real...or can it? Is love really only words? kalemmatin laysat kale - kale mat!!!!
