Tryin' On Clothes

I tried on the farmer's hat,
Didn't fit…
A little too small — just a bit
Too floppy.
Couldn't get used to it,
Took it off.
I tried on the dancer's shoes,
A little too loose.
Not the kind you could use
for walkin'.
Didn't feel right in 'em,
Kicked 'em off.

I tried on the summer sun,
Felt good.
Nice and warm — knew it would.
Tried the grass beneath bare feet,
Felt neat.
Finally, finally felt well dressed,
Nature's clothes fit me best.

Shel yer ill- not doin' fine-
    Death preceded you in ninety-nine.
Yet a poem appears from your slick dome-

Ought-four it says- in bold monochrome.

Bet you wish you were home sweet home-
When you finished scrawling this madcap poem-
Not pushin' up daisies from under the pine-
But eating a cherry and drinking some wine.

A cute little write, extolling the virtues of naturism. Pity one is likely to get arrested for practising it. Nice poem though, and nice thought.

intersting how so many are used to his later, whimsical styling and so few realize he had a music career that was a bit darker than most of these poems.

This takes me back to my childhood. I had all of the books, and I remember this poem. The rain falling on a cool summer afternoon, and I was sitting on the windowstill hugging my legs together. I wishing the rain would stop so, I could go fishing. My mom was trying to keep my mind off outdoors, by reading me this poem.

I hope you all can post the rest of his poems, because there is a lot more than just these 9.

I really enjoyed this poem it made me smile at how simple things are and how we should take them for what they are free and granted.
