"Butter And Eggs"

In orange cap and yellow skirt
She stands - this arrant farmer flirt!
She knows the thoughts he dare not utter,
The while he buys her eggs and butter,
He knows his fate!
And yet this silly lover begs,
"Oh, will you sell A kiss, as well
As butter and eggs?"

Milk maids can turn milk into butter and men into asses.
Another nice little piece from Mz Deland

I thought for sure that Old Poetry wouldn't have any of Margaret Deland's poetry since she was primarily a novelist and wrote only one book of poetry...you guys have done a great job of scouring resources! Ok, so I won't be adding Margaret to the database.

This is a simple, cute poem, similar to others in that collection which was somewhat in contrast with a more serious tone in her fiction.

That's men for you. They never change! but this poet treat it in a lighthearted way. She could handle it, I'm sure. This is one of guys who know damn well he's going to get turned down but he still plays the game.
