    This is an excellent haiku. It used the sense of "sound" very well in L1 and L2. I almost let out a sigh as I read this...when I read L3. I agree with Mr. Andrew Hide and Tina's comments. Those sounds which sound when you just want to float away into blissful sleep tend to be very annoying.

    Yes Andrew so true, its enough to drive us mad at night when we are lying awake, just dozing off into bliss and suddenly a dog starts barking! Not a mile from your house but right at your window!!! And telling them to shut up just wakens and angers people and more dogs! eck

    It's funny, these everyday sounds we hear constantly during the day, yet they have no place in our thoughts; but at night as we lay awake, they become the markers of the slow movement of time in a sleepless night.

    Shiki really perfected this 'as is' reporting, a few carefully chosen words which resonate with the reader, even on the most mundane of things.
