Proletarian Poet

A big young bareheaded woman
in an apron

Her hair slicked back standing
on the street

One stockinged foot toeing
the sidewalk

Her shoe in her hand. Looking
intently into it

She pulls out the paper insole
to find the nail

That has been hurting her

This piece just sounds either of a woman going home or work and is feelling the hurt in her feet or it's about a prostitute and the same notion applied. Of course it could be of both. I feel more-over the former than the latter.

On either count, it's a good piece written by Williams.
