The Passionate Shepherd To His Love

    Come live with me and be my love,
    And we will all the pleasures prove,
    That valleys, groves, hills, and fields,
    Woods, or steepy mountain yields.
    And we will sit upon the rocks,
    Seeing the shepherds feed their flocks,
    By shallow rivers, to whose falls
    Melodious birds sing madrigals.
    And I will make thee beds of roses,
    And a thousand fragrant posies,
    A cap of flowers and a kirtle
    Embroider'd all with leaves of myrtle:
    A gown made of the finest wool,
    Which from our pretty lambs we pull;
    Fair lined slippers for the cold,
    With buckles of the purest gold:
    A belt of straw and ivy buds,
    With coral clasps and amber studs;
    And if these pleasures may thee move,
    Come live with me and be my love.
    The shepherd swains shall dance and sing
    For thy delight each May morning;
    If these delights thy mind may move,
    Then live with me and be my love.

    Season of Love
    ----------------
    Live with me and be my love,
    Let us make a season of love,
    With the melodies of breeze,
    And the dances of trees.

    Let us greet the velvet fields,
    Where the dreams of ages yields,
    Watch them my dear, the waving green,
    In the shades of clouds above seen.

    See my hut in the smiling garden,
    See not thou a place of heaven?
    See how the nature sings a song,
    In the shores that our eyes long.

    Come closer and share your heart,
    Chant deep in “Let us not apart”,
    And if you wish for my love,
    Come live with me and be my love.

    LOVE'S ANSWER:

    Here I come, my dear love,
    Take my soul and save in you,
    And if your love is really true,
    Let us make a season of love.

    Pastoral poem

    This poem was written during Shakespear's time, Marlowe was actually his rival playwright.. Most pastoral's are about fictitious shepherd's or sometimes fisherman.. anyway, You should never think the "shepherd" as a real person. This style of poetry is kind of a dream world where everything is perfect.

    We are currently stufying this poem at the university.. it think it is really nice, but i have to agree with my teacher/doctor, that the poem has a half rhyme and that in some way they pronounced the words differently back then, because words like "Love and Prove" don't rhyme

    She asked a few of us to try and write a reply to this poem and I DID!! i may not be very good with the iambic meter, but i think i did the rhyme, although in the paper we have it is divided into 6 stanzas, here it is not  mine however is only four stanzas long.. it is a reply to this poem...

    Anyways it is also very nice to read and it is a sort of Fantasy! He seems to be picturing the perfect life for his love...
