Outlaws -- Billy the Kid and Clyde Barrow

Billy rode on a pinto horse
Billy the Kid I mean
And he met Clyde Barrow riding
In a little gray machine

Billy drew his bridle rein
And Barrow stopped his car
And the dead man talked to the living man
Under the morning star

Billy said to the Barrow boy
Is this the way you ride
In a car that does it's ninety per
Machine guns at each side?

I only had my pinto horse
And my six-gun tried and true
I could shoot but they got me
And someday they will get you!

For the men who live like you and me
Are playing a losing game
And the way we shoot, or the way we ride
Is all about the same

And the like of us may never hope
For death to set us free
For the living are always after you
And the dead are after me

Then out of the East arose the sound
Of hoof-beats with the dawn
And Billy pulled his rein and said
I must be moving on

And out of the West came the glare of a light
And the drone of a motor's song
And Barrow set his foot on the gas
And shouted back, "So long"

So into the East, Clyde Barrow rode
And Billy, into the West
The living man who can know no peace
And the dead who can know no rest

    To guest ND and others.
It is a matter of record that the duo killed at least 13 people and the law states that in such cases BOTH are guilty of murder regardless of who pulled the trigger. Parker could have saved at least 12 lives if she had taken the right action after the first death!!
Now can we get back to discussions on the POETRY please. That is what we are here for.

Bonnie Parker, though I agree she writes great poetry, was a mass murderer. Perhaps 'revenge' from the law enforcement of the time was a bit much, but to most, she got what she deserved.

All I can say is Wow! she shouldn't have died the she did. Let her and Clyde rest in peace and put thier troubles behind them.

I love all of Bonnie's poetry. I'm a big fan of Bonnie and Clyde despite all of the crimes that they've committed I only wished they lived today so that Bonnie could continue to do her poetry at Clyde's side.

I wish to make no offense on those who posted before me, but I must offer one simple disagreement to the comment of "wasted talent, or to bad she fell by the wayside" Whats important to understand is that had she not been who she was, and had not the intentions she harbored, these poems would not exist. She was not a woman corrupted by Clyde's lawless ways, no not at all, she was a kindred spirit who felt set free to a point by Clyde. That is plain to see in my opinion. Clyde who was seemingly more driven out of desperation, it was in fact Bonnie who rides out of passion and love.

I just wanted to throw something out there. Because Bonnie knew that she was going to die at the hands of the law, because of her life in "sin" I think her point in having Billy the kid talking to Clyde was to compare what was happening in life and what would happen in death. Because Clyde's spirit was so restless in life and he was always on the run, that wouldn't change in death, which in my opinion is an important statment about the afterlife.

Bonnie definately had talent. Too bad she chose the other route. One has to wonder though if this came to her as a premonition. And at what point in her ventures with Barrow did this come about? Is there any history on this piece. Was this the only piece she wrote. I like the way she compares Clyde to Billy.
