"Goodbye, my friend, goodbye"

Goodbye, my friend, goodbye
My love, you are in my heart.
It was preordained we should part
And be reunited by and by.
Goodbye: no handshake to endure.
Let's have no sadness — furrowed brow.
There's nothing new in dying now
Though living is no newer.

Original in Russian:

До свиданья, друг мой, до свиданья. Милый мой, ты у меня в груди. Предназначенное расставанье Обещает встречу впереди.

До свиданья, друг мой, без руки, без слова, Не грусти и не печаль бровей,- В этой жизни умирать не ново, Но и жить, конечно, не новей.

Notes

Written in his own blood, and given to a friend the day before he hanged himself, or so it is assumed.

This was accually his suicide note, written in his own blood. That is where the Bring Me The Horizon song name came from.

    Last two lines

    From guest Isabel Binvignat (contact)
Can anyone guarantee that when he wrote those two lines he meant that he was going to kill himself? To me, he´s saying that he cannot endure living with the great alcohol problem because he knows that the actual wife can´t help him and he tended to be depressed. I think that he also means that he has seen so many people, specially men die in his beloved Russia that its mysticism has gone and that life is controlled by the government, even when you think that it´s not. Very strange times indeed.

    And...

    From guest Zareah (contact)
He commited suicide because he didnt like the way he was living, drinking becoming sick, he would rather die and live in peace then have his family and wife watch him suffer. Hes pretty much saying that he will see her again in heaven or whatever he belives in. At least he left a note. I know what its like to loose someone dear to you eccept my Dada didnt leave anything but all the drugs he was in I understood why he did it because he couldnt change and he didnt want to live the rest of his life in agony.

    From guest Zareah (contact)
When its translated, It doesnt make sense, so they pretty much just fixed it so its understandable. I know how to speak and read russian because i am russain and its pretty much the same thing as the example. Just some words are different but when its translated it doesnt make sense. Its kinda like how some people say tamato different.

One of the best I've ever read I liked it anyway... To me he's an inspiration... Though not by dying, but by what he wrote, and this poem is definitely my favorite. I also love the song by BMTH

Although this is only a translation of the original which was in Russian, I believe it to represent the whole poem. The original Russian version and a different translation may be found here.

    BMTH<3 Lyrics

    From guest Jesse (contact)
Ok, considering I bought the CD, and it has the lyrics written in there, I should know. It really is the poem Sergei wrote above with the line "It was written in blood" added to it. Sorry if I came across as rude.

    Oh!

Oh this is very sad poem. Loving someone is good but dying for some one is simply causing pain to the one he loves.the poetry is good but the act is not to be appriciated.

I prefer the translation below, but as written it is is a solid piece. Still, the idea of writing in one's own blood should have made the translator more careful to be exacting with it. Also, the date of writing...2004, is that the translated piece?

The given date was actually the date the poem was added to the site. A glitch in the early programming but now corrected (on most poems)
