Goodbye, my friend, goodbye
My love, you are in my heart.
It was preordained we should part
And be reunited by and by.
Goodbye: no handshake to endure.
Let's have no sadness — furrowed brow.
There's nothing new in dying now
Though living is no newer.
Notes
Written in his own blood, and given to a friend the day before he hanged himself.

please iam looking for song its so sad song i heart it when i were in bus so sad song its says( good bye my friend good bye my love) is amen who sing it please help who is the singer. this song its from heart. -
I prefer the translation below, but as written it is is a solid piece. Still, the idea of writing in one's own blood should have made the translator more careful to be exacting with it. Also, the date of writing...2004, is that the translated piece?

The given date was actually the date the poem was added to the site. A glitch in the early programming but now corrected (on most poems)

i like it
i think its ez to read and any one who has lost some one, could come prity close to relate to what is writen
in the poem -
It's a marvelous poem, but a horrible translation, for poetry should never be tried to be translated with rhyme, but exactly.I hereby propose:
Farewell, my friend, farewell.
My dear, you are in my heart.
A destined separation,
a promised future meeting.
Farewell, my friend, without hands, without words,
do not be sad nor let melancholy be on yur eyebrows,-
dying is not new in this world
but, of course, living is not now.
