excuse me but lady liberty needs glasses
and so does mrs justice by her side
both the broads r blind as bats
stumbling thru the system
justice bumbed into mutulu and
trippin on geronimo pratt
but stepped right over oliver
and his crooked partner ronnie
justice stubbed her big toe on mandela
and liberty was misquoted by the indians
slavery was a learning phase
forgotten with out a verdict
while justice is on a rampage
4 endangered surviving black males
i mean really if anyone really valued life
and cared about the masses
theyd take em both 2 pen optical
and get 2 pair of glasses

Read it like he is stating thoughts...

" and liberty was misquoted by the indians " 'Pac knew history. The "American Indians" and the way they were treated, make the term "Liberty", sound like bull crap. This was a phrase he threw in for "thought and measure"... a Poet would do this! Note the next line mentions slavery? The scence unfolding in his mind to cause him to write down these words can be portrayed for us readers to unravel. His life was lived to tell a story! Read it like he is just telling you his thoughts! -
A question
From guest Joe (contact)
Hi everyone. What does "and liberty was misquoted by the indians" mean? Thanks. -

To Guest Joe
My own opinion is Liberty and Justice refered to by Tupac are two statues depicting two ideals. He feels that the statue of Liberty should be shown wearing glasses as she does not see some of the insults to freedom still existing in the land of the free (mutulu / geronimo of the Brinks mat raid). In the same way the statue of Justice (who is usually shown blindfolded) should wear glasses to help her see the injustice in the world (Oliver North and Ronald Reagan).

yeah during that time it was if blacks wasn't so important. They didn't have much freedom so when he says they need glaseshe saying these people aren't doing what they should.
Justice needs glasses he says because their wasn't that much justice. For what tohose poeple thought were justice wasn't -
Hit it dead on

To me TuPac is trying to say the obvious, but in terms only the unobvious would detect. To me you have to truely read between the lines to tell whats trying to be said. To me it seems as if he's trying to say they need galsses to see those who go unseen in fair terms. That Liberty is avoiding those who wish to be seen, and not confronting the situation until forced into it, and Justice is only fair to those seen it high standards, Liberty needs glasses to unblur the vision its created of people. -
Great.
This was great. ♥ -

To me, It sounds like 'Pac is just fed up with the way the American Justice System works. How we claim to be the land of the free but still have racist and biggots in high places. Lady Liberty would rather put a black man in prision for selling drugs to feed his family b/c the same system won't give him a job, but she could over look the white man who is beating the shit out of his wife. The glasses are metaphor's for the systems ability to see and omit what they want.
This is also relevant to his afterlife. Lady liberty and Ms. Justice need they're glasses to find the suspects behind a 9 year old murder case that happened in the middle of the fuckin' desert. C'mon somebody, please get those bitches some glasses so they can see whats really going on. -

You tell them!
I completely agree. For me real regime which holds this screwed up system in place is the media and consumerist regime, telling people what to look like, what to eat, what to wear...and the fact the schools support all this just ties western civilisation in a sraitjacket by teaching the kids that this is acceptable

Wow..Tupac is amazing. He's totally prophetical (if that's the right word/spelling). He's a poet man. A real damn poet. I always thought the hype surrounding this man was BS, but wow, wow, wow....he is an amazing person with vision and soul I can't believe it. I dont know if I'd dig is music (I'm not much into rap), but I am definitely a fan of reading it as poetry. Amazing. Kudos to all the people who've been Tupac fans for years. You have a million on me

I like this piece becuz he's straight up with wat he's talking about. He doesn't want the world to come to an end with segregation or things we dont need in the USA. He just wants everyone to be content with one snother.
-
I think that it is telling that he wants every one to be peaceful, and treated fairly, and wants everyone to just be cool with each other!

I don't know Nam. After contemplating this poem for a night i concluded that Tupac wrote this piece while in a state of rage. He was most likely infuriated at the police that night, for offending him or one of his close. DOn't get me wrong i like the piece, but i feel as if I have to be critical, this is one of the few of examples of his work that allows me to do so. P.S I notice that you are never critical,,,,may i ask y?
-
Quite blind. This is philosophical in so many ways, and it speaks out against the opression of conformity I feel as well. I may be the only one that sees that point-of-view but I see it none-the-less and that's good enough for me.
A good piece that 2pac has written here.
