from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it
learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.

Trying to figure out???
From guest Jasmine (contact)
1.What does rose represent? 2.When it comes to the rose what figure of speech is being used? 3.What does the concrete represents? 4.What is the poet's main message? And who is this poem is about? -
-
Please read the other comments here. Read the poem a few more times and you will begin to see that Tupac is talking about anyone - who becomes the 'rose' can come from the most humble of beginings and still grow to shine, having travelled a hard jhourney along the way. Personally I think the 'Rose' is the poet himself.

tupac is my favourite MC of all time, and this, this is some hardcore Edgar Allen Poe stuff. Man we need a Tupac for our times not all those fakers using auto tune so they can show their singing "talent". -
i love this poem
From guest dee dee (contact)
i love all of his poems but this is one of my favorites. tupac is so deep and real with all of his poems and lyrics. people may not like it but he tells the truth and many people are affraid to accept it. in this poem i think he is lettin people kno that just because people think you will never amount to anything in your life doesnt mean you have to follow what they say. you should prove them wrong just as he did. -

tupac shakur <3
From guest n/a (contact)
tupac, i know that its confusing whether you're dead or alive.. but you will forever be alive in my heart. you have affected my life so much. yet i've never met you, this i know. but you really made an impact on me doing poetry and what not. you always saw the positive outcome on things, you always taught some lesson thru each song you made. you influenced people in ways i didnt think cud be possible. you always seemed to have felt a sense of hope in change, and respect for any religion, race, or culture. i felt your pain when you wanted pain to be felt. you set out your points,& NOONE cud have done it any better. you knew your death, you felt it coming. as if God had went into your dreams - and gave you a sign. it shakes me to hear stories you yourself have said about your death. things have changed, and its been TOO long. but you will never ever be forgotten. you have sent out many messages, and leave us all curious about you. i wonder about your creativity and your knowledge, you were so aware of things. you had character, and messages that you had left behind for us to mourn on, or to learn from. you wanted to see change in the world - but were probably dissapointed to be shot cold blooded. i wanted you to know that i have been impacted on you, and i will always try to make positive change. you live on forever. -

Inspiration for those who Rise through adversity
From guest Damian Powell (contact)
I love this and I also love Tupac's explanation of the passers by noticing the shabby leaves but being unable to see the strength and beauty of a rose that grew through concrete. This is an inspirational poem for anyone struggling to grow in difficult circumstances. -

Tupac has more knowledge that than the world can ever figure out. I study his words and his way of living, and have learned that he too is a rose that grew from a crack in concrete. Hes a legend. He makes people pay attention and become intreged by the simple words he speaks. I love him and everything he stands for. -
2PAC, ROSE BEYONDINFINITIES
From guest DEBEYOND (contact)
The rose that rose through the concrete no this is not Greek. Rise to speak. Believe and never bow down to weak. Strive to be free in living your dreams...PAC spoke to my dreams and gave me new ones as a teen... Love to live and enjoy the moments while fighting politically. -

amazing poem right here. Listen people, music is music! Just cause you can't understand it doesn't mean it's trash. *Sigh* glad I got that off my chest LOL
-
I thought this was pretty good. It's flow was a bit choppy. But everlasting meaning!
-
Damn...Tupac...was a poet? This is beautiful. R.I.P. dude,I respect you for this. I understand the message of this completely.
-
I never really looked at Tupac as an "artist" I didnt really like his music (but then, I never took the time to listen to the words)... after he died, a friend sent me this very poem... it makes you think.. and I have read other stuff by him, he was a true poet. I respect the man 110% for his message and his delivery!

-
simple open words that everyone can understand, a message for life that all would benefit by having, as they engage the world each day...PK
-
Why is the date of the author's death left as unknown? The poem itself is simple yet wonderful. The metaphor is well developed and his words linger in your mind! Very sad that the world is now deprived of his insight. RIP
-
-
The death date of 1996 is not shown as originally Old Poetry was intended for poets who are long-dead and the system was set-up as such. However, Tupac along with other, younger poets of worthy recognition are now shown on Oldpoetry due to many reasons (copyright taken into consideration) who the site owner feels deserves the recognition of our readers. Tupac's author page gives his death date.

meaning of this poem
From guest (:spongy
(contact)
i think that it means or talks about his life such as him not being appreciated by somebody or also that no one ever cared for him only his mother that everyone judged him by his color or stiff like that but i mostly think that it means that he suffered through times that certain people told him stuff that hurt him alot and that is what i think the meaning of this poem that was made by tupac shacur -
Impressed at 51 years old
From guest Delia (contact)
My niece always talked about his poetry, so I decided one day that I would read the poetry book. What wonderful talent this young man had. Great insight. I wish I could say thank you to him for enlightening me but hopefully his family knows what a remarkable young man he was. Such a sad loss. -
REAL
From guest -:~:Cat D:~:- (contact)
i like this poem alot because to me it showed the life of the rose where it grew strong, even when no one cared of its significance in the world., like when some people don't realize something special, even the simpelist things can be appreciated. -
Lovely
From guest Benn (contact)
Im a typical fool, id refer to Tupac as a mere image of the generation who worships the leaf of marijuana more than the song itself. Yet upon looking into his poetry it really broadens him, ill be honest i doubt your typical pieball with a 2pac tattoo would have read it but im glad i finally understand this great hype over a great fellow.. -

THE INFAMOUS KING OF RAP
From guest Lawrence Garavito (contact)
I really admire tupac growing up as a kid,he came came from a broken home in the ghetto,i came from a broken home in the ghetto living in san bernardino. He had a mother that was addicted to heavy drugs,i have a mother thats still addicted to drugs until this day! He was born june 16, a gemini, shit so was I. ive been kick out on the streets every since i was a young kid, just because i wanted to run my own program living at my pop's house in riverside. my only choice was 2 sell drugs just to put food in my belly. My brother the one that was always there for me,his name is rudy III we always looked out for each other, and until this day we still do. Now im getting older thinking about my life trying to do something i love in thats music!!!! thats to the great MAKAVELI,we love you in miss you.so pay attention to this poem, its deeper then you think!!!! -

personification in the poem
From guest j.srikant (contact)
Here the personification of the rose plant and the rose is so beautifully done, that one is left wondering, whether truly the poet has got identified with the rose and the plant that he can feel and see their dreams, and walk marching ahead inspite of being held in the concrete . -
-
From guest Christine (contact)
I love it! It shows pride and power of the rose. It's really powerful. Your poem reminds me of Martin Luther King, how he had to be so powerful against the others while they tried to stop him. Your poem is life, love, liberty and greatness in just a few words. Way to go! -
this poem totally changes my previous perception of Tupac...it's great
-
From guest williams231 (contact)

True
From guest Elsa (contact)
This poem is very true. It refers to Tupac himself, and, to me, every other person who has ever grown to be something great, and positive, out of something shitty. Growing a rose from concrete is just as impossible as Martin Luther King Jr. becoming what he became, out of a world where black people had no chance for anything. Tupac was a great man. Rest in Peace. -

From guest steven (contact)
i like this one poem most about Pac...it not only describes how he made it through life...but it is also about a bigger thing...it shows how a whole society can grow if it tries -
Amazing. Love the ending lines! It's so beautiful- hope against darkness and striving each day.
