of Italian women
who squeeze eggplants
at market; tongues that can feel
a man like a canker sore,
a jewel.
Tongue
of shepherds, dry
like the tongues of their sheep,
circling
the steep embankments
of the river.

Very intriguing use of gender here/ the forked tongue of the snake/ female tongues, male tongues being felt by one. Is it the Spanish tongue he speaks of or his own physiology or both?

I just loved this... I was really quite astonished, I completely thought it was going to be different that what it appeared to be on his page..

I love how the poem just starts out as a fragment it really makes you think if there is another meaning to this poem othere than the obvious one. I don't know if the ending is really my taste but not everyone can write their poem according to my taste now can they. As you can see I am having an internal battle with myself about how open is open enough. I try to be more open but I also try to stick to my views.

Ha. Yeah, I think I agree with you. I do, however, like the line "circling
the steep embankments
of the river. "

hmm...I don't know if I like this. It doesn't bring about images of vuloptuous, erotic beauties that I think Italian women are.
