Two men are joined as one in you:
One seems cold and hard,
One who achieves his goals.
Another is tender and kind,
He forgets not even the poorest.
He feels for the least of us.
Two streams owe their strength to you.
You are the sap rising from each root,
The seed that gives them birth —
A new spirit rose from you,
That forged us together as a nation
And dwells in us forever!
One seems cold and hard,
One who achieves his goals.
Another is tender and kind,
He forgets not even the poorest.
He feels for the least of us.
Two streams owe their strength to you.
You are the sap rising from each root,
The seed that gives them birth —
A new spirit rose from you,
That forged us together as a nation
And dwells in us forever!

High Hitler
Very True,A new spirit rose from you,
That forged us together as a nation , the poem is soft and the theme of the poem is idalizing some one for the uplifting of your spirit, Hitler was , no doubt a personality of very high stature. those who know hitler can enjoy this poem in a different way. -
Interesting to read something from this point of view... This poem shows that there was indeed something 'special' about Hitler - something that many people admired him for...
I've also been doing research on Hitler and National Socialism - I am German and I think we really need to know our country's history...
Is this poem available in German by any chance? I'd be glad to read it. -

the poem was interesting it showed how there is good and bad people in the world where now people are taking after hitler. People should have listened to winstons churchills famous speech he made back in 1939 it was 'jaw jaw jaw not war war war' which means talk about it and be friends and dont fight about it which just says it all -

every year at schoolis the exact same thing. hitler is bad this, hitler is evil that... you never learn about the good side of him ever!!! pout pout. i thinks its about time to start. i am researching hitler for school and i am trying to find nice thigns about him... its kind of hard because everything is so degrading. in my personal opinion i think that this poem has a signifigant perpose. it tells about him being cruel but also that was was infact kind. maybe people should read this peopm more often thanks for the help in my paper i appreciate it. -
It is important to be representative of all poetry styles and subject matter. I was surprised to see the title of this poem, and after reading it, can easily accept it for what it is: a young person being trained by the Youth Corp that was created by Hitler. The poem proves that reaching out to the young of society is beneficial. The same can be said for the rise of gangs--they look for the children between 5-9 years old to serve as lookouts, pay them a little money, and then entice them to consider joining the gang. Hitler's rise to power is an amazing story, and he seemed to have the answers for the country. His true colors were revealed later. This poem can apply to almost any world leader--the image of reaching out to the poor, of providing, of being mindful of the needs of the people. Lines 4-5 are telling in this regard. I also think that it is interesting that Chairman Mao was a poet. Hitler was an artist.

I have nothing but respect for this poem because it doesn't dismiss every nature of Adolf. Indeed, Hitler did achieve so many great things, helped his country and proved to be a strong leader (and the author does seem to display a lot of good), however there are still aspects of destruction here. 'One seems cold and hard'. I'm glad they didn't toss that aside. Perhaps the author couldn't go into detail here, but it can be translated in so many ways (even if it was swayed by being a member of the Hitler Youth). I like the fact that the author conveys images of his cold exterior, but beneath that, blood DID run through his veins, and human emotion and tenderness were there, despite the many horrible acts he commanded.
Proves to be an interesting read, anyway. -
You can't hate/like a person you've never spoken to or met.
Great poem though

I believe that Hitler was a great man (great in the sense that he made some considerable acheivements) but a man whose morals lay in very controversial places. He was an extremist who believed he was acting for the good of the country he loved. I am not in any way endorsing or excusing his actions, but we must understand that no human is pure through and through, or evil through and through. We cannot know what went through Adolf's head as he realised the chaos he had caused. He also wrote a revolutionary book name Mein Klampf (my struggle) about his views, and growing up in a poor background, surrounded by rich and prosperous Jews did not help. He had extreme views. Obviously he committed terrible sins, really terrible sins, but he is a human being like us, and he did have a good side. He loved his mother, loved his wife, and loved his country. He was misguided, but not evil. Sadly many people had to suffer because of his extreme faith.

Hitler was a great achiever but at the same time he was a murderer. Whatever it is the Jews were living people too and he killed 6 million of them. I am currently doing a school project on Anne Frank(guess you all know who is it). And i am required to evaluate a poem about WWII. Though, i am not using the poem, it was pleasure reading the poem and comments. This site is recommendable. And i would like to post a favour, as i am having a hard time searching for war poems, would this site help me??

Hitler was an idiot affected by World War I chemical weapons that set back European development permanently. The poem sounds like something one would write to any fearless leader.

This was written by a young person some years prior to the outbreak of World War 2. During this particular time Hitler did represent hope to many in Germany and Austria. This poem was written to Adolph Hitler at this point in time. The author had no way of knowing what was to transpire in the future. Perhaps then his/her perspective would have been entirely different.
When this poem is read in context (the time in history and the age of the author) it is in fact, albeit a translation, an amazing tribute that could have been written for anyone. Only with the benefit of hindsight and knowing what this man was to become does it change our own perspective.

Aussiewoman,
On this site there are piece of poetry which may offend almost every religion, every creed and even oppose modern moral values.
It is not our intent to promote the subjects contained in these poems, the authors beliefs and values have not what are on display here but rather the way poery has been used throughout history.
When you enter the British war museum it contains many of the weapons designed to destroy those who now house and display it. We have very much the same philosophy on this site. It is here for people who wish to read poetry to view it, should we remove all poetry which doesn't comply to a specific view?
We are sorry that you found this piece offencive and hope you can understand our reason for displaying it.
