A moment of happiness,
you and I sitting on the verandah,
apparently two, but one in soul, you and I.
We feel the flowing water of life here,
you and I, with the garden's beauty
and the birds singing.
The stars will be watching us,
and we will show them
what it is to be a thin crescent moon.
You and I unselfed, will be together,
indifferent to idle speculation, you and I.
The parrots of heaven will be cracking sugar
as we laugh together, you and I.
In one form upon this earth,
and in another form in a timeless sweet land.

Heavenly
The rich symbology here is astounding. I love the image of the crescent moon, a thin crescent moon that suggests perfect union. Lovely. The phrases, 'you and I unselfed','apparently two, but one in soul' simple and so profound at the same time. A very gifted writer this. -

I think that this poem is very beautiful, particularly the part about the crescent moon. I didn't understand the part about cracking sugar.

Cracking sugar
It's a metaphor for singing sweetly

can you see that he is still implying about the divine love?...
(I'm not aggressive just a muslim,following Mevlana's teaching...)
this love ain't only a surface approach he talks about Love for God...
I really hope people would get that...
Especially, the one from outside the original country of Mevlana Cellaleddin-i Rumi.(which is Turkey)
Thank you for your attention.

that is VERY nice. too bad he's not around here, or i would love to talk with him! this piece shows a firm grasp on reality, a calm, balanced way of thinking. i like it.

This is so beautiful! Wow, wake up call. I definately need to read more oldpoetry. I'll definately read more of Rumi's works!! I'll bookmark this one to start with.
The imagery was gorgeous. The flowing water, garden, birds, crescents. My absolute favorite was the line about heaven's parrots cracking sugar. It takes a genius to come up with this stuff! I'm very impressed!!!

Wow.....This is so beautiful. If I was in love, I would share this with my lover.
"We feel the flowing water of life here" I love the choice of words, her descriptions. I wish I was there, in that "Moment of Happiness." Applaude!! -
This is a very pure and divine theme of poetic imagination.very beautiful poem.

I'm a huge fan of Rumi's work,
but this was actually the first time I have read this specific poem. Who did the translation? It seems a bit different from his normal poetry. I love the crescent moon imagery..how wonderous. -
