Dandelion

Little soldier with the golden helmet,
O What are you guarding on my lawn?
You with your green gun
And your yellow beard,
Why do you stand so stiff?
There is only the grass to fight!

That is interesting about how she may have stopped writing because it no longer promoted that exclusive bond between her mother and her. Much like letter writing -- if the person you are writing stops answering, you will most likely drop the correspondance. The child, Hilda, may have been most motivated by the performative aspect of her telling her mother the poems. I wonder if her mother became ill, or if she simply encouraged her daughter to write on her own when she grew up; afterall, we can't depend on our moms to keep doing the work forever. I would love to have talked to Hilda about her experience as a small child, reciting to her mother, and ask her about the reasons she didn't pursue it later.
