Brown for the autumn leaves,
     Green for the tree;
White for the flying sail,
         Blue for the sea.

Grey for the solemn priest,
     Red for the lass;
Black for the silent boy
     Dead in the grass.

    Black

    Black represents death itself. I don't believe it's the colour of his skin, Black is synonymous with funerals, death, grieving and this I feel is what the poet is saying.

    You are so right One Fine Poet I really didn't expect for it to be so sad since from the beginning the colors were bright and vibrant.What I don't quite get is if the boy was actually black or if he was just black from being dead for a while. I really didn't expect for there to be a dead boy it is really quite scary and it sort of reminds me of how Poe's poetry always ends up. Happy (to an extent) in the beginning but by the end you feel as if you are about to cry. Good write thoug h I really enjoyed it especially coming from an author that I have never heard.
