The Little Turtle

A Recitation for Martha Wakefield, Three Years Old

There was a little turtle.
He lived in a box.
He swam in a puddle.
He climbed on the rocks.
He snapped at a mosquito.
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a minnow.
And he snapped at me.
He caught the mosquito.
He caught the flea.
He caught the minnow.
But he didn't catch me.

I read this a while back, apparently I didn't comment. It's a fun poem, not only for young children but for us somewhat older ones too.

  • I've seen this poem as "Anonymous". I'm pleased to see it has a home. for children it's a lovely lyrical poem - very easy to remember.
