Tomorrow

He was going to be all that a mortal should be
     Tomorrow.
No one should be kinder or braver than he
     Tomorrow.
A friend who was troubled and weary he knew,
Who'd be glad of a lift and who needed it, too;
On him he would call and see what he could do
     Tomorrow.

Each morning he stacked up the letters he'd write
     Tomorrow.
And thought of the folks he would fill with delight
     Tomorrow.
It was too bad, indeed, he was busy today,
And hadn't a minute to stop on his way;
More time he would have to give others, he'd say
     Tomorrow.

The greatest of workers this man would have been
     Tomorrow.
The world would have known him, had he ever seen
     Tomorrow.
But the fact is he died and he faded from view,
And all that he left here when living was through
Was a mountain of things he intended to do
     Tomorrow.

    My Dad told me never leave a job that can be done today, until tomorrow.This poem is a confirmation of that advice given to me a long time ago. The structure has a hint of humour built into it and overall is a delightful piece of writing.

    Now is the time many of us are forming our New Year's resolutions and we could do worse than take inspiration from this poem of Guest's and also from the man himself. A man who made time for the work and the pleasures of each day and was thankful for them all.

      I can find nothing in my collection or on the net with that title. Could you perhaps provide a line or two from the poem as it may be known by another title.

    Wow. This piece reminds me so much of a Love of mine in certain respects. He put so much off.....but most certainly accomplished much. I think in his case, he just had so very much he wanted to do, that some things had to be pushed off to the way-side.....until tomorrow, or even until tomorrow's tomorrow.

    What a grand man Edgar seems to have been. I would've Loved to have known him, to have been able to call him friend.
