Requiem

When I am dead, my dearest,
        Sing no sad songs for me;
    Plant thou no roses at my head,
        Nor shady cypress tree:
    Be the green grass above me
        With showers and dewdrops wet;
    And if thou wilt, remember,
        And if thou wilt, forget.

    I shall not see the shadows,
      I shall not feel the rain;
  I shall not hear the nightingale
      Sing on, as if in pain:
  And dreaming through the twilight
      That doth not rise nor set,
  Haply I may remember,
      And haply may forget.

    I find this quite an inspiring poem. It is though she has accepted death and the things it brings.. It is one of the poems I am studying for my English Literature GCSE however it was not one of the 3 of 5 poems we were given that I chose to analyse fully. I was under the impression, however, that it was called 'Song'. Still, anyhow, must be getting on! x

    This was my very first introduction to the world of poetry, other than childrens rhymes. This poem got me hooked on poetry, it is stil my favourite and i think one of the most beautiful oieces of writing i have ever written.

    don't touch it!

    I love this poem, it helps me think of all the people I have lost in my life and it helps me think positivly of the fact that they are gone. But it helps me think of thme being in heaven. Especially A friend (Well an aquantince) that I knew from school named Jorj who had got shot just a few months ago.

    death is not something to be feared but to be welcomed .The poetess has very profoundly described death as a beautiful departure to a loving home.
