I have a white rose to tend
In July as in January;
I give it to the true friend
Who offers his frank hand to me.
And for the cruel one whose blows
Break the heart by which I live,
Thistle nor thorn do I give:
For him, too, I have a white rose.
CULTIVO UNA ROSA BLANCA... (Verso XXXIX)
Cultivo una rosa blanca,
En julio como en enero,
Para el amigo sincero
Que me da su mano franca.
Y para el cruel que me arranca
El corazón con que vivo,
Cardo ni oruga cultivo:
Cultivo la rosa blanca.
Notes
In the language of flowers the white rose symbolises - eternal love; innocence; heaven; secrecy and silence.

Beautiffuly written. Either you are a white rose man or you are not. A whole life doctrine. Sorry that I did not care about this when I was in Cuba. Thanks apostol -
Lovely sentiment
A beautiful sentiment expressed.
I feel it would sound quite beautiful spoken in the language for which it was intended.

Offering innocence
If the white rose stands for innocence and vulnerability then offering it to both friend and foe is a courageous thing to do. The point is that somehow courageous people have done it down the ages. They have treated everyone the same, offered their white rose to everyone equally. It is petty mortals like us who struggle to respond the same to everyone we meet. -
very nicely written. clear and understanble the white rose given for eternity. God places this in those soul who behave in his rightneousness believing him and following his ways.

Simply stated verse of a forgiving heart. Speaks of the importance of loving, not remaining hurt or angry, but seeking harmony with all. This type of love needs tending, nurturing; for it grows, it does not diminish. Marti has such concise expression and quiet beauty in his writing. Lovely poem. Thank you for having his poetry available here for everyone to enjoy. The symbology of this flower included here is a nice touch for those who have little knowledge of such things. Peace, Rhonda

For have his poems.. They still shine all his stars.... -
Think of this poem as a response (dare I say a "christian response") to William Blakes "A Poison Tree". To be able to pay peace and kindness to someone that has injured you is quite an amazing trait. This poem teaches that revenge is best served with "killing in kindness". An "eye for an eye" is not always the best option.
