A drop fell on the apple tree
Another on the roof;
A half a dozen kissed the eaves,
And made the gables laugh.
A few went out to help the brook,
That went to help the sea.
Myself conjectured, Were they pearls,
What necklaces could be!
The dust replaced in hoisted roads
The birds jocoser sung;
The sunshine threw his hat away,
The orchards spangles hung.
The breezes brought dejected lutes
And bathed them in the glee;
The East put out a single flag,
And signed the fete away.

This poem is abt rainshower in summer season...
the first stanza tells about the happy scene of drizzle.. on the roof top and trees.
the second stanza...was the drizzle flowing into the brooks and they wanted to flood the sea. The drizzle rain drops looked like pearls..
The third stanza tells about dust replaced by rain waters in roads with hoisted patriotic flags.. the happy scene of birds singing .. and the day slanting towards evening... it could also mean the rainbow .. and the orchards glistened in the wet shower...
The air took the dejected souls and cheered them in happiness. But the East put out just a flag ( war) and put the celebration off... -

Thanks for the help. I have no idea about the last stanza. Who is "them" and who is "the est" and what does "signed the fete away" mean. Thanks again. -
Guest Kerie,
It seems to me that this is about a shower of rain and how it refreshes and alters various things.
How it makes merry sounds rattling on the roof (A half a dozen kissed the eaves)
How the rain cycle works [Rain -- Streams -- Rivers -- Seas -- Evaporation -- Rain again]
It dispels dust
It makes the birds sound happier (The birds jocoser sung; )
and so on ....
A simple, descriptive nature poem -

Can anyone tell me what she was trying to say. Not sure what this poem means. Thanks -
it's not a love poem, the listing states it as a poem about nature. seems sort of dull to me, relative to her other works.

This doesn't seem to me to be a love poem.
