SEVdo, SEVdo, SevdeLIno
I TI, ROSna DeteLIno,
KOia VEcher da ti DOIda?
KOia VEcher po veCHEria?
Ah, sweetheart, sweetheart, my little sweetheart,
Ah you, my dewy clover.
When supper has made your parents all sleepy,
what evening may I come over?
KoGA SAkash, toGAZ DOIdi
SAL ne IDvai so druZHIna.
ODAIcheto mi e MAlechko,
to syBIra do dvaMIna.
When you desire, then you shall come;
but don't bring along the whole crew,
for my bedchamber's tiny, ever so small,
with room in it only for two.
Notes
"Sevdo, Sevdo" is a Bulgarian folk-song, sung in 2005 by 75-year-old Liuben Stoikov near Sofia. We have used capital letters to show the emphasis so one can read it aloud with the Balkan rhythms - the letter "y" is pronounced like the "a" in "what."
