A White Rose

The red rose whispers of passion,
And the white rose breathes of love;
Oh, the red rose is a falcon,
And the white rose is a dove.

But I send you a cream-white rose bud
With a flush on its petal tips;
For the love that is purest and sweetest
Has a kiss of desire on the lips.

      You would need to check out any copyright restrictions ( his living family may hold the copyright) and also always make sure you credit the author with the poem.

    A White Rose

    Could be better in second stanza. Instead of "cream-white rose" he could have said cream-flushed rose.

    red rose and white

    From guest Becca (contact)
    we used the poem in our civil ceremony, my husband and family are from lancashire(the red rose) and i am a yorkshire lass (the white) it was the only way to encorporate the two families without using flowers as i hate red and white flowers together.

    A beauty of a poem. I must say it's a very nice change from some of the lines the guys at school try to pull.

    My husband sent me a copy of this poem last month, and had white roses to arrive with the poem. I have two of the roses dried and the poem framed. I think O'Riley was thinking for the future husbands/lovers that needed help crafting their romantic feelings in verse. O'Riley is the Cyranno Patron Saint of such men, ha. "The red rose is a falcon,/and the white rose is a dove." Lovely.

    Such a sweet "knock" at the door of new love. He sends his love as a bud, which holds all the promises of future passion and abiding peace. Lovely, fragrant emotive write. It is reminiscent of "My love is like a red, red rose" but not so overpowering since it here is qualified with the word, but, "But, I send you a cream-white rosebud". Warm and inviting...

    This one was really nice and it had meaning to it.. Not a lot of poets make you understand their writing, but this one had its own little turn and style to it. I enjoyed reading this one.. Hmmm. Maybe I'll look for more of this poet.

    It is a lovely piece for even its shortness, it is a lovely view of simplicity of 'roses and poetry' as the above says.

    A good piece here.
