Clerihew - Henry the First

Henry the First
Ate lampreys till he burst.
His unfortunate decease
Simply ruined the Norman peace.

Notes

Henry the first of England died from overindulgence in his favourite meal, lampreys. They are a type of fish. His death led to a bloody power struggle that destroyed the peace imposed after the Norman Conquest of 1066. BUT Bentley said it better

This is another in the excellent format created by Bentley as a schoolboy (with G K Chesterton). They encapsulate facts about prominent people in a humerous and hipefully memorable form. Ideal for students revising for exams.

Personally I don't see much value in this particular poetic effort.
