The way your little finger moved

AH, God, the way your little finger moved
As you thrust a bare arm backward
And made play with your hair
And a comb a silly gilt comb
Ah, God—that I should suffer
Because of the way a little finger moved.

Poets have to stop playing with their pubic hair then waxing lyrical about it.

    sigh!

its pretty universal... those tiny gestures... the way a person walks, breaths, glances... I can feel the shivers in his spine and the rush in his heart

Now *this* was good. Sometimes it's the smallest thing that makes your heart just ache. In this piece, the love is tangible.

Wonderfully written, and a lesson that love poetry can be succinct without losing any impact.

    Great!

This poem is great, suffering due to loves whim. It was short but it did it's job i think. I like it too cause I can relate. In a world where people look past alot of things, it's funny how love lets us appreciate the little details of beauty. Nice write.

i guess i'm a loser, but i really didn't care for it all that much. there was emotion, sure, but i don't know, it just didn't do anything for me.

beautiful, so short yet so powerful and so appropriate. a little finger's movement caused crane such sorrow and entrancement, and this little poem stirs up much emotion in its readers

Brings to mind, when God does move his little finger that it really does move man. Yet, God is an all loving God, and does not wish for man to suffer at His hand, yet, when God does move his little finger, (I like the metaphor of this little finger, causes to think, God moves the little finger, and not the GREAT and MIGHTY one...then man would be struck down indefinitely) it would cause man to be moved in a good or bad way. In reference to the story of Job in the Bible, God did not touch Job, but God did allow the devil to torment Job as a test of Job's faith in God. I thought this piece brought so much thoughts. Great little piece with so many great ideologies that stream from this.

It's the little things that really draw people together. The gentle innocence of the woman in this poem clearly drove Crane nuts

I like this short piece very much. I think that he uses few words here to express a great deal. It shows just how deep a love can go, to the point that you want nothing more than that finger crooked at you.
