If I could write words

If I could write words
Like leaves on an autumn forest floor,
What a bonfire my letters would make.

If I could speak words of water,
You would drown when I said
"I love you."

I first stumbled across this poem when I was about 17. Think it was when doing some English homework. It stayed with me even when I couldn't remember it (if that makes sense) and when I rediscovered it last year I was delighted. I wish I could've written something some so poweful and beautiful.

  • This was a man who's passions were endless, so deep they had no bottom or top, a mind that could spin so easily out of control and a heart led by eyes that saw too far and too deep. Such an elemental nature could only be described thus.

It's at least a different way of writing the same thing that's been written innumerable times. And it does suggest that frustration those of us who can't write in an ornate manner about love and emotion, struggle with..."If I could" is how it begins, because he can't...though he sort of did...holy paradox. lol

I just cannot agree with those who feel this poem is too short.
He fits into 6 lines enough words to fill one's heart and soul - words to fall back on when feeling unhappy or lonely. The depth of love is infinite. 'Words of Water' not needed here - the poet says what he feels in his heart and that should be enough for anyone to hear.

    If I Could Write Words

    From guest Ewan Wilson (contact)
This really is a beautifully distilled encapsualtion of what it is to love! His allusion to leaves on the forest floor conjures up the sheer superfluity of affection love creates..as abundant as forest leaves! He then reinforces the imagery with his idea of a bonfire which perfectly expresses the raging emotions of the lover to his beloved. Finally he repeats this with his water and drowning allusion. Delicious stuff that anyone who has loved or does love passionately will empathise with immediately.

This author and this amazing short powerful verse he's composed. Is intended to move the emotions of the reader and it does infact. I like his eyes. From the image provided and through his insight too.

Simple, elegant, heartfelt. One of the things I like best about it is how it also serves as an excellent example of the soul of poetry and shows how two short, sparse statements can convey and support an emotion so very much larger than it would seem.

    no material but to relate

"If I could write words" is not concomprising not composing at all because poor for precision of comparison. But might it be better open for discussion when the characters aren't exact as a stack that can be for a town's impact but rather inimate yet weighted and it was for me.

This has me think of a spread out over time understanding, but can spend quickly if had that millionth term of what's branching in a portfolio of relationship that can with family reach winter feelings in enigmatic times. The densest decisions might be gotten off the chest, it seems though. Vibrancy of oranges of new highlights could turn into flames if raked too soon also.

It all makes me think of nth way of being in love, how it might not make one cry but you cry nevertheless to bring improvement where refreshment and strength need balance and even among lectures at reality.

This is awesome because somehow in just a few words he creates something so beautiful that it leaves you wanting more, you know? Like it's so short and somehow simple in a way, but there's this kind of power to it nonetheless. This is beyond awesome.

Spike "If I could write words"

Beautiful, beautiful poetry. Spike was a troubled soul in life, but a genious withal. This poem stands as a legacy to that genius. The good that men do lives after them. Spike made a lot of people happy while alive and with this offering he reaches back from beyond the grave.
