"What is a Bongaloo, Daddy?"
"A Bongaloo, Son," said I,
"Is a tall bag of cheese
Plus a Chinaman's knees
And the leg of a nanny goat's eye."
"How strange is a Bongaloo, Daddy?"
"As strange as strange," I replied.
"When the sun's in the West
It appears in a vest
Sailing out with the noonday tide."
"What shape is a Bongaloo, Daddy?"
"The shape, my Son, I'll explain:
It's tall round the nose
Which continually grows
In the general direction of Spain."
'Are you sure there's a Bongaloo, Daddy?'
"Am I sure, my Son?" said I.
"Why, I've seen it, not quite
On a dark sunny night
Do you think that I'd tell you a lie?

Very nice
It is realy hard to write comic poems.Spike Milligan is a wonderful poet indeed -
From guest pheobe (contact)
spike milligan is the best poet there is his poems are unique and individual. His poetry definatly makes me laugh. -
"Bongaloo" is a quirky result of stating what is because it's about what isn't, it seems because that word can be made up according to dictionaries. Thus, the last line.
The first exaggeration is either sad on some tribal sound to it stereotyping a cannibal's recipe of one typically lactose intolerat, or a take of 'aren't you glad it isn't real' while jolted to the verisimilitude of the verses such that there's an actual community synonym to this fiction.
The second emphasis shows the foreigness of it when darkness meets romanticizing an an idea!
The third conversation cinquain of sorts had almost a reference of snootiness having this in form.
The ending isn't summing up a fib but a possibility, or maybe distinctly history :
"On a dark sunny night"
by which a notion might sit under tight cover but reflection comes through with someone seeing the paper loose like a tomatillo's for the tome to be of carmelized garlic to some until the pearl sprout is lost because of natural mold.
