My legacy

My legacy --
What will it be?
Flowers in spring,
The cuckoo in summer,
And the crimson maples
Of autumn...

There is deep understanding of the eternal flow of time and the continuity of being in this beautiful poem... How nothing perishes, how we all have the same legacy, the good and evil combined... The pause at the end, to me, is the unsaid--the harsh winter.

Perhaps Von it is the long sleep of winter.

Perhbaps as Taigu was a wanderer he didn't really have any 'material' possessions to leave. However I believe the 3 seasons he has covered seem well looked after. I just wonder what he had in store to leave for winter.

I am always amazed at the way these short verses manage to pack in so much. By encouraging us to read between the lines and fill in the gaps for ourselves poetry like this is great to read and to re-read.
In this case Taigu makes me ponder on what will be my own legacy and what I would like it to be.
