i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
                                  i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

From guest The wizard of OZ (contact)
I love you. How do I know? I am not sure. but it is that feeling that tells me that there is a God, that the sun will rise tomorrow and that every time a new moon is born I will remember you. I know that we will never be together, I know that years and culture separate us. But it is my wish, to have you in my arms. If not in this world, than in the hearafter. Thus, I try to change you faith for me to have a better chance, when we are no more. The wizard of OZ.

I first encountered this poem in an American Lit course in college, back in the sixties. It struck me then, but over the years I forgot about it. I recently watched "In Her Shoes" and was re-acquainted with it. I am sending it to my current love for her enjoyment. Thanks to you, and my everlasting thanks to Mr Cummings, for having written it.

I'm from Argentina and I knew this poem when Cameron Diaz read it on the movie "In her shoes" and I thought it was great. I never read poems in English because they're not common nowadays. But as I love English I was really amazed by this poem, I think it's great and that without knowing what the writer was thinking when he wrote it, you cand understand it perfectly and you can find in the poem you own meaning.

My youngest daughter died 12 weeks ago. At 42 she is the proud mother of 5 five beautiful daughters and one adored grandson. She was so vibrant and alive. I desper- ately miss her. This poem, in some way, expresses my need to keep her here, safe and protected---so I carry her heart with me, (I carey it in my heart). I am com- forted by this poem.

This poem was also read at my husband's funeral and I totally understand what you are saying. It's deeply meaningful phrases and repetition are second to none. Hearing it read out loud with all the passion and nuance of the poet is really something and it flows straight to the heart of the listener. It is a remarkable poem.
      My condolences for your loss.

When my mother was very ill with cancer, we would watch tv at night. We watched a movie with Cameron Diaz in it, in which Cameron recited this poem. I don't remember the name of the movie, unfortunately. But we liked this poem so much that I got a copy of it the following day and took it to my mom's house. I had this poem slipped into my mother's urn at the funeral home. I read this at the gravesite of my mother. My children and I have wallet copies that can be carried with them. I just love it. I loved my mom very much. She will always be wi†h me.

read an excerpt from this in the film, "Candy". it's always been a favourite of mine, but to hear the words coming through his voice made it far more haunting. even as a poet myself, i have been at a loss for words on how to express my heart to my beloved... until i remembered this beautiful piece. e.e. cummings sums up my feelings perfectly.

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)...how can anybody not be moved by this very line...let alone the rest of the poem...proves yet again...love is eternal...it goes on...the words may be his...and beautiful words they are...but the sentiment is universal...dont think there are many instances where words of the english language are used so simply yet so perfectly and so meaningfully...it all comes down to this...i just love this poem...it says so much...says it beautifully...and i know its a typical girl reaction but i cant help crying everytime i read it...whats wrong with being typical if i get to enjoy this wonderful piece of writing.

I just lost my mother on July 20, i realize that the poem is in regards to someone you are in love with, but I miss my mother and feel that I will always carry her with me and of course, I will carry her in my heart where she will remain forever.
