i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
                                  i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

    Heath Ledger...

read an excerpt from this in the film, "Candy". it's always been a favourite of mine, but to hear the words coming through his voice made it far more haunting. even as a poet myself, i have been at a loss for words on how to express my heart to my beloved... until i remembered this beautiful piece. e.e. cummings sums up my feelings perfectly.

    From guest akanksha (contact)
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)...how can anybody not be moved by this very line...let alone the rest of the poem...proves yet again...love is eternal...it goes on...the words may be his...and beautiful words they are...but the sentiment is universal...dont think there are many instances where words of the english language are used so simply yet so perfectly and so meaningfully...it all comes down to this...i just love this poem...it says so much...says it beautifully...and i know its a typical girl reaction but i cant help crying everytime i read it...whats wrong with being typical if i get to enjoy this wonderful piece of writing.

The first time I really heard this poem was in the movie "in her shoes" where Cameron Diaz recites it. It made me cry because of the beauty in the words. I just lost my mother on July 20, i realize that the poem is in regards to someone you are in love with, but I miss my mother and feel that I will always carry her with me and of course, I will carry her in my heart where she will remain forever.

Reveals the essence of spiritual love

The beloved and the lover in this passionate poem seem inseperable,as if melded into a unitive existence. It's exalted metaphors and imagery reveal the essence of spiritual love,a reflection of nature's beauty, exploring the depths of the human heart.

It has had a definite impact upon me and I can relate so much through the poets words and only wish I had had it in my posession some years ago to share with someone very dear to me. The movie has certainly opened a window into cummings' work and it shows what a versatile and talented man he was. Beautiful, incredibly sensitive poem.

Thank you for sharing..... You have inspired me to seek e e cummings's works to read..... I have always written my name in lower case and have been criticized for doing so..... Hm, maybe this has been a sign for me to seek..... Love ya', tanya ;)
