my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

I wonder what it feels like to have a love so strong, something eternal and irresistable. no one ever said it better. I wish I had someone to describe a connection so strong, to take me everyday as a part of their heart. -

Ah, Love, the great force of the universe...with such vast implications and applications, yet able to be held within the heart of a man. Stunning progression here in these lines... building to a gorgeous denoument and then returning again to the simplicity of the beginning!!!

Heath Ledger...
read an excerpt from this in the film, "Candy". it's always been a favourite of mine, but to hear the words coming through his voice made it far more haunting. even as a poet myself, i have been at a loss for words on how to express my heart to my beloved... until i remembered this beautiful piece. e.e. cummings sums up my feelings perfectly. -
beautiful...
From guest akanksha (contact)
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)...how can anybody not be moved by this very line...let alone the rest of the poem...proves yet again...love is eternal...it goes on...the words may be his...and beautiful words they are...but the sentiment is universal...dont think there are many instances where words of the english language are used so simply yet so perfectly and so meaningfully...it all comes down to this...i just love this poem...it says so much...says it beautifully...and i know its a typical girl reaction but i cant help crying everytime i read it...whats wrong with being typical if i get to enjoy this wonderful piece of writing. -

I keep your words, { i keep them in my heart] so close
No words heard are, { more beautiful, yet so true } deeply felt
Then those ones { your heart spoke to me} silently heard -

Touching
From guest Megan (contact)
The first time I really heard this poem was in the movie "in her shoes" where Cameron Diaz recites it. It made me cry because of the beauty in the words. I just lost my mother on July 20, i realize that the poem is in regards to someone you are in love with, but I miss my mother and feel that I will always carry her with me and of course, I will carry her in my heart where she will remain forever. -

that's my favorite thing I've ever read by him. a bit ideal perhaps, but what's wrong with that I guess... It' absolutely breathtaking. it makes me feel. I think it could make almost anyone feel, if they really looked. -

E. E. Cummings said a lot here. He is one of the classic poets of all time. Thank you for sharing this with us. This is so romantic, and full passion for his love. I know it melted my heart just to read it. -

This is the most beautiful poem. I heard it for the first time when Cameron Diaz recited it in her movie. It stuck in the very marrow of my bones. I recite it to my one and only true love. Anyone who knows me, knows whose heart I carry in my heart! -

Carrying a heart within one's heart is very special type of feeling. Heart in heart, soul in soul, eyes in mind, so philosophical and Metaphysical romantic expression. -
This soul-filled tribute to a loved one reminds me of tender feelings that I carry in my heart.

In the English language there is the Gettysburg Address, the Declaration of Independence, Ecclesiastes (King James Version) and this gift from ee cummings. I used it at my wife's recent memorial service because it perfectly expressed our relationship and my feelings. Her heart travels with mine. And mine with her. -
Beauty.
I find this poem to be absoult beauty it tells that love is a powerful thing and we are never without it! I feel like I can relate to this in a special kind of way. -

Reveals the essence of spiritual love
The beloved and the lover in this passionate poem seem inseperable,as if melded into a unitive existence. It's exalted metaphors and imagery reveal the essence of spiritual love,a reflection of nature's beauty, exploring the depths of the human heart. -

From guest Yumie (contact)
I saw it 'IN HER SHOE' as well and several times till one day I actually watched the ending and the poem almost made me cry! It reminded me so much. Just so much of a friend whom I considered much like a brother, a mentor, a love and my muse. A great love that only few had the chance to experience and even less, to keep. I'm on of them and I thank God. I love you, Kei. -

My 13yr old daughter and I watched 'In her Shoes' and she then wrote down the words and asked me what I thought of when reading them. My answer was my children and my love for them. She said she thought of her big sister (aged 24, with whom she shares an extremely close bond). Brought tears to my eyes and made me proud! -

Sometimes a poem grabs your heart strings and twists them - and this poem haas done that to many people particularly since it was recited in a recent movie. The Movie (the name escapes me) has brought this poem to the eyes and hearts of so many people - which is a good thing.

Over time I have read the comments made about this poem but have never actually read the poem - until recently and have come back for a second visit.!
It has had a definite impact upon me and I can relate so much through the poets words and only wish I had had it in my posession some years ago to share with someone very dear to me. The movie has certainly opened a window into cummings' work and it shows what a versatile and talented man he was. Beautiful, incredibly sensitive poem. -

This is a touching poem for anyone who has had a loss. In my case, my eldest son. Who passed from a heart conditon at 17. I was looking for a special reading for his 20th birthday celebration 10/27 and what better than I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart) -

I loved the way in which you did the research on this magnificent poet. I too heard this piece in a movie and had read it before in a book I was reading at my DR.'s office. Thank you for sharing..... You have inspired me to seek e e cummings's works to read..... I have always written my name in lower case and have been criticized for doing so..... Hm, maybe this has been a sign for me to seek..... Love ya', tanya ;)
