Epigram IV - On Base Metals

(After Glasgow)

IF we were asked to make a choice
'Twixt two Inflictions, both unpleasant
The ruinous sword, the raucous voice
We almost feel as if, at present,
We should prefer the Iron Hand
Of Prussian, Saxon, or Bavarian,
Rather than any longer stand
The Brazen Tongue of this vulgarian.
