In Memoriam 16: I envy not in any moods

I envy not in any moods
The captive void of noble rage,
The linnet born within the cage,
That never knew the summer woods:

I envy not the beast that takes
His license in the field of time,
Unfetter'd by the sense of crime,
To whom a conscience never wakes;

Nor, what may count itself as blest,
The heart that never plighted troth
But stagnates in the weeds of sloth;
Nor any want-begotten rest.

I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

    This is a beautiful poem though I have always despised this rhyme scheme. It has always bothered me for some reason and I do not know why. Anyhow, I had known that it was he who said the famous line regarding love and loss, but I never understood that it was an excerpt from a poem before. I feel as though I have learned something of consequence! I love learning new things.
    But I digress.
    I think that everyone can relate to this poem, and, even though I don't like the rhyme scheme, it is amazing. I hope that no one bashes me for this comment--afterall, I don't like ice cream either, and most people seem to disagree with me on that note as well.

    So, it is not the first person who says it. I remember something similar in one Poe's comment and one Emily Brontie also...Mistakes happens.
    And sorry, I remember Ovid saying that Safo wrote and expected to be applaued (she wrote poems, of course). Applauses are always expected after poems, not just now or never. It is much arrogance to think there is such thing as bad comment and...there is plenty of bad poems in the world.

    How can you claim to love poetry when you dont know when it was written. Poetry isnt written for an applause, it is written as a true expression of ones thoughts. So instead of saying "good poem" say something benificial or share something of your own, because truthfully there is no such as a bad poem.

    Very nice poem...
    I particularly liked:
    "I hold it true, whate'er befall;
    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost
    Than never to have loved at all."
    Keep writing!
