Lies About Love

We are a liars, because
the truth of yesterday becomes a lie tomorrow,
whereas letters are fixed,
and we live by the letter of truth.
The love I feel for my friend, this year,
is different from the love I felt last year.
If it were not so, it would be a lie.
Yet we reiterate love! love! love!
as if it were a coin with a fixed value
instead of a flower that dies, and opens a different bud.

    Beautiful thought.

the poem starts with a very straight statement and ends with a soft touch of joy. It reminds me of a rhyme of chines proverbs..I dont know if they are really chines, here ...
If you want to shrink something,
You must first allow it to expand.
If you want to get rid of something,
You must first allow it to flourish.
If you want to take something,
You must first allow it to be given.
This is called the subtle perception
    of the way things are.

-- from the Tao Te Ching

This poem is true on so many levels. I am a big fan of D.H. Lawrence and I have to say this is one of my favorites.
