Spring is like a perhaps hand
(which comes carefully
out of Nowhere)arranging
a window,into which people look(while
people stare
arranging and changing placing
carefully there a strange
thing and a known thing here)and
changing everything carefully
spring is like a perhaps
Hand in a window
(carefully to
and fro moving New and
Old things,while
people stare carefully
moving a perhaps
fraction of flower here placing
an inch of air there)and
without breaking anything.

it reminds me of spring cleaning motivation for consistency even in recollection
oh "perhaps" as optimistic now with obvious to believe in seemlessly or laboriously acquiesce to nice scene as stimulus would have it opening up for
this brightness on routine, makes one hunker down to okay when it comes but we should have adherence that we've heard it comes around even as a at matrimony's mat woman that could become pregnant... does she just whine of not being able to have as at that hemisphere but it can switch sooner than expected.
and yet regular succulent nutrition as from soil or feasible releasable nature would've made the welcome more real -- like meeting job for it by bits knowing better or burdensomely back from sadness "moving a perhaps
fraction of flower here placing
an inch of air there" so is winter sunk into or strongest towards ~
schedule for growth not wipeout where other periods peered out,

I think he is pointing a prehaps at those that point a finger at the mess you have created in "their window" -
Doing an analysis on this poem
From guest Mildrede (contact)
I am doing an analysis on this poem for English class, and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to take up the required 500-600 words, but now reading your comments, I realize that I have barely scraped the surface of this poem, I certainly won't be worrying about too few words now... Anyways, thanks for leaving comments, they really opened my eyes, and gave me ideas for topics! :) -
This is *perhaps* one of my favorites written by cummings. Loved the middle line "changing everything carefully" and then the ending "without breaking anything". They just seem to connect.

It also seems to be about spring and nature at the same time. it does a sort of meshing of metaphores and literalness (i dont think thats a word). also, ee cummings seems to use a lot of parentheses in a lot of his works.... does anybody knwo why exactly? because they aren't exactly less importatn than the rest of the poem. -
-
I suppose cummings uses the parentheses in the same way as a prose writer does. To indicate asides, interesting thoughts that are not actually a necessary part of his message.
Try reading the piece again but omit the bits inside the brackets. You'll find it still makes some sense but is not as interesting.

GREAT POEM
I think this poem is a metaphor for many different things, but in general it seems like spring symbolizes the things that come and go in life, like friends, and belongings, and pets, and family, and other material objects, and the perhaps hand is like fate, it is what brings those people, animals and objects too us and then takes them away, fate in a sense is a predestined path that people will take. And the last part people stare carefully moving... seems like it represents how people adjust to what fate brings, if they lose a family member they eventually adjust to that person being gone (moving a flower here, placing air there) people rearrange their lives based on what they are dealt in life or in other words what fate's path has in store for them. -
does anyone know what the poem, "Spring is like a perhaps hand" by E.E. Cummings is about?

I agree about this poem being full of metaphors. It really makes you think on it.
