Beneath the willow wound round with ivy
we take cover from the worst
of the storm, with a greatcoat round
our shoulders and my hands around your waist.
I've got it wrong. That isn't ivy
entwined in the bushes round
the wood, but hops. You intoxicate me!
Let's spread the greatcoat on the ground.
a further translation by A S Kline:
Khmel (Hops, and Intoxication)
Under the willow, wound with ivy,
we shelter from the storm.
A greatcoat covers our shoulders,
my arms, to keep you warm.
I’m wrong. The trees in this wood
are circled with hops not ivy.
Better to spread the coat
on the ground, here, beneath me.

The fact that Scott Peterson recited the same poem to Amber Frey as he quoted on his missing wife's poster is chilling. What a beautiful piece of work, and what a shame to see his reference cheapen the very loveliness of this work.

Earlier I had posted that Scott Peterson had recited this poem to Amber in one of the taped calls and in a letter. I just recently learned, he had also left this message for the volunteers at the search center and Put, "It's your hands arounds Laci's waist." at the bottome. That is very scarry. Why would Scott recite that poem to both Amber and the volunteers? Could it be some kind of clue? Or a freaky coincidense?

The two take cover beneath a willow to shelter from the storm. A tree he believes has ivy vine growing around the trunk. Holding her in his arms, the closeness and contact have a physical effect of desire, that combined with her scent (which he associates with the intoxicating scent of hops (the vine from which the fruit is used to produce beer and has a very heady scent) I presume this is really her scent, as I've never witnessed a hop naturally growing in the shelter of a willow). With his mood being controlled by the intencity of the moment, he suggests removing the greatcoat which they have drapped over them for warmth, to be placed on the ground...
I like this piece, it's simple but leaves enough for the reader to wonder over.

Comfort me as the world rages about us.

It simply means Amber has Scott wrapped around her fingers, alusion to Ivy just put Amber's name in there.
A love poem to Amber his true love? -
The poem "Hops" was supposedly recited by Scott Peterson to Amber Frey. Can anyone give their interpretation of this poem? I am not good at interpreting poems and just wanted someone's opinion on this one.
