Five Haikus

1.

I am nobody:
A red sinking autumn sun
Took my name away.

2.

I give permission
For this slow spring rain to soak
The violet beds.

3.

With a twitching nose
A dog reads a telegram
On a wet tree trunk.

4.

Burning autumn leaves,
I yearn to make the bonfire
Bigger and bigger.

5.

A sleepless spring night:
Yearning for what I never had
And for what never was.

Renee, Dez...wonderful display here, I grew up reading this writer and his depth of engagement in the condition of blacks in the U.S., Native Son and so many other classics; but I'd never seen his haiku and such a delight here, another side of a great writer: humorous dog, such poignant depth in being nobody, whimsy in violets ...certainly, one of my literary influences...thank you...PK

I just found over 500 haiku by Richard Wright and you know I am going to post as many as I can. I would like to thank AP's Secberm for challenging me to add more.

haiku!!! Such a great add Renee. This poet does have a different vision of haiku, but still used some very good images. The third one is my favourite. Will certainly look for reading more.
