A Girl

The tree has entered my hands,
The sap has ascended my arms,
The tree has grown in my breast -
Downward,
The branches grow out of me, like arms.

Tree you are,
Moss you are,
You are violets with wind above them.
A child - so high - you are,
And all this is folly to the world.

    A Girl

    From guest kisha (contact)
the take that i get from the poem is that he is enlove with this girl whom he compares to a tree. a tree symbolizes strength and something that will last forever no matter what winds come it will not break or it's unbreakable. love is a give and take type of relationship. when you fall enlove with some one you gain trust and respect for them as well as them from you, but any relationship no matter what knid it is it takes compromise and a hole lot of time and energy especially in order to get something thats worth the wait.

Well, I like this better than Joyce Kilmer's tree poem

Rather tall child, this tree you are. Something not quite in the usual metaphor.

Folly to the world is right. The world hates trees. Not too kind to 'em. Ents must be outraged.

Interesting poem/thought. Note the use of the pronouns "my", "me", "You" then the shift with the "a child" to you again. Perspective is used on a personal level, then to an outward level with the conclusion that "all this is folly to the world." The second stanza is almost an affirmation, begging to be accepted by the "girl"; one can almost feel the speaker stating/yelling, then in vain, resignation submit to the final eight words. Trees are symbols of life. I think it is also interesting that a female was chosen as the subject to be spoken to. In the second stanza, do you envision a female or a male speaking?

This poem can mean many things and the last two lines help explain a lot of things and can lead you a lot of explanations.here's what it can mean:
Pound is criticizing a materialistic world that has lost its sense of wonder(child -so high-you are) and its touch with nature and the world of imagination(imagination because the tree ha been inverted in you and it grows from the head). The branches growng out like arms remind me of embracing-a world aloof from materialistic values. Also there is something alive and organic about the world Pound supports and this vibrancy is folly to the world, because it is dead.
gave it my best shot. I don't have a lot of biographical info about Pound .hope this helps.
