  • on Les Ballons by Oscar Wilde, on April 8, 2006
I like this I think it shows the delicacy and beauty of the balloons I like the way he chose to use the French title 'Les Ballons' this gives it a less usual/common feel and makes it seem a bit exotic. I preferred the start of this to the end, I felt he was great at starting this I liked the alliteration here, making the poem sound beautiful
All the best to the researchers and anyone else who views this write

  • I liked his flow This was a good villanelle (sp?) one of the first I read. This is a powerful and strong poem 'Light' I feel represents life and 'night' represents death I think he used iambic pentameter, which I liked (how can you tell if it's an iambic? I can't tell the difference between hard and soft beats) Was this written to his father when his father was dying?

  • on War Girls by Jessie Pope, on March 30, 2006
I'm quite indifferent to this poem- my English year 10/11 teacher hated it! But I don't mind the form, I like the rhyme and repetition. However, possibly because of the era it was written in, it seems quite sexist and jingoistic (which cannot be excused by the era, as Owen etc wrote anti-war poetry but could be because she's a 'girl' and didn't go to war)
Anyway, I disliked the message but I did like the style of this write.

  • on Little Jack Horner by Anonymous British, on March 29, 2006
I'm used to 'eating his christmas pie' and 'what a good boy am I'. Another great one from childhood, which I recommend to parents. Thanks Old Poetry researcher/s who worked on these rhymes for my little nostalgia fest
