  • on Drinking Alone in the Moonlight by Li Po, on March 9, 2004
I found this interesting. It made me think of those moments where you are suddenly hit with the idea that you are alone and then you refuse to be alone and so you make the moon and your shadow your friends. Sobriety like the sun can take both away but when night falls and intoxication calls you will meet again. And being alone becomes relative....

This was a great read. It kept my attention and drew me in. Thank you for sharing your words.

  • on The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats, on January 11, 2004
I won't lie and say I looked at it from a historical lierary perspective (i didn't even read the authors name before I started reading) but I have re-read it several times before posting this. I think first and foremost it is an incredible piece of poetry. Though I have never been able to write in it's style it is the style that captured my heart in 10th grade English years ago.

That said the imagery and message I get from reading this is about the second coming. However it's like a dark second coming. where all of us who believe in god and believe that we shall be saved sit waiting for the great day of light and hope when we will be reborn. And that day arrives but he who has come is not our savior.

Its the end of the world as we know it. All the believers lack belief and all the non believers stare at the sky in wonder.

It's a very passionate and deep felt piece. It's images blatant but slightly calming.

  • on Nirvana by Sidney Lanier, on January 3, 2004
Nirvana... I have always perceived it to be some sort of unreachable state of bliss though Laniers words make my heart wonder on it's existence, reachable or otherwise. He calls for it as though it is a dying dream while all the emotions, experiences and sights seen in between are real and torturous.

It is a very powerful and thought provoking read. My favorite part is as follows,

By waves swept on, I learned to ride the waves.
I served my masters till I made them slaves.
I baffled Death by hiding in his graves,
    His watery graves, Nirvana.

This stands out to me because it is so... inspiring. Its the most daring and uplifting part of the poem to me. He is relating what he has learned and conquered to Nirvana.

Nirvana the band caputured my heart with their words and Lanier has captured a portion of it with his Nirvana as well.
