He certainly had a way with words... this poem quite literally COMMANDS your attention. "You'll like this... because this is everything." type of thing.
and because he's capable of pulling that off... it makes it even better. I don't know... it's just something about what he puts into a page, not ONTO it. *sigh* I wish I knew what was going through his head.

    "sway with me, sad things"
could this poem be Bukowski's way of opening himself up for whatever may come his way? Taking all the depression and sadness and allowing it to stay?
That's what it seems like to me. He needs all of this pain and sadness, because without it he doesn't know what to feel.
it's pathetic, sure, but he makes it so damned interesting and lovely.

When I can't write about anything... my poems end up sucking. Bukowski can be in the same situation... and write an awesome poem about not being able to write a poem. * sigh * that's talent.

I used to have this poem in my profile. I don't know why I took it out.

  • "when by now and tree by leaf
she laughed his joy she cried his grief"
oh man... this one was so funnnnn (especially to read out loud)
I love that he doesn't use punctuation. there aren't a lot of poets that realize the full impact of not going with ordinary things (like periods)
his command of words is outstanding.
    I loved this one.
