  • Well this poem is nice. I have to say Shakespeare really was a master of his art. However I think one of his best sonnets isn't listed here. I think you should definitely post William Shakespeare Sonnet 130 (My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun). It seems to say so much and unlike most of these poems it gives a more realistic picture of what love is really about. Anyway, loved reading this poem. Always have to love a good sonnet especially by Shakespeare.

Just out of curiousity... why was this not broken down into the sections? I think it's important to note that it was written in sections. As we are now studying in my Whitman class, each section can stand as a poem on it's own or can be looked at as a part of the whole just as Whitman is using himself as an independent person who can stand alone but also as someone who is a part of the world and a part of society. Anyway I was just curious about that... I love Walt and "Song of Myself" is my favorite.

I also think the meter was off a little in this poem. However I think when read without stops at the end of each line (reading through to punctuation) helps a great deal. This poem has a great message. I guess we only have the life we have been given and we have to find a way to make the best of it.

  • This poem reminded me of Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour." I feel like the speaker in this poem is probably much like Mrs. Mallard. I don't think it was really a loveless marriage but it was not a passionate marriage and so grieving the end of it would be a little difficult I think.
